I’m really tired of scrolling down seeing articles or videos that are titled “ToP tEn LiFe HaCkS”. It’s just plain annoying. Mainly because hack isn’t even the right word. People overuse it the hack and take it WAY out of context nowadays. What does hack even mean in the first place? Well, all it takes is a google search to find the definition!
“Use a computer to gain unauthorized access to data in a system.”
So, as you can see from the definition it doesn’t make any sense to use the word hack. All of these “life hacks” are stupid things anyway. None of them even reach what the meaning of the word is.
Instead of using the word hack why not use the word cheat? When using the word cheat as a very it can mean to “avoid (something undesirable) by luck or skill.”. Dang, that sounds like a much better word than hack.
I can already hear you “but Toby that doesn’t make any sense either” sure it does. Avoiding something undesirable by luck or skill sounds like it fits perfectly. Here’s why: Life sucks and that’s the point of these “life hacks” is to “hack” life. Except you’re not using a computer and you’re not gaining unauthorized access to any form of data or systems.
Instead, saying life sucks and that’s the point of these “life cheats” is to “cheat” life. Meaning you’re using these life cheats to “avoid” common undesirable things in everyday life with luck or skill. Boom there you go so stop calling them hacks. The word cheat CLEARLY is the word you’re all looking for.
You’re not hacking anything you’re cheating every day sucky life things. Life cheats doesn’t have that same kind of ring to it though.
